Paragon Orchestra performing with the silent film “The Mark of Zorro”
January 31, 2008 • 7:30 p.m.
As the world’s only professional ensemble re-creating the sounds of early musical theater alongside silent cinema, the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra (PRO) came into being as the result of Rick Benjamin’s discovery of thousands of turn-of-the-century orchestra scores once belonging to Victrola recording star Arthur Pryor. “For nearly a decade now, the 12-member PRO has been touring the country in the ghostly footsteps of the 1000s of ‘theater orchestras’ that once played in every hotel and vaudeville hall . . . Few of them can have played with more bite and sparkle than the Paragon.” — American Heritage Magazine. For more about Paragon Orchestra, visit http://www.paragonragtime.com/

autorickshaw
March 6, 2008 • 7:30 p.m.
On the cultural cutting edge across several continents with a cool fusion of Indojazz, Toronto-based autorickshaw is a perfect collision of style, where contemporary jazz and funk collude with the exotic sounds of India and hints of Bollywood. Formed in 2003, autorickshaw has risen exponentially to become one of the most intriguing acts in world music and jazz, earning a recent JUNO nomination for World Music Album of the Year in Canada’s equivalent of a Grammy.
