Carson High School

Technology Center
In August, 1999, the Jim Randolph High-Tech Center opened for student use on the grounds of Carson High School. It is used jointly by Western Nevada Community College (WNCC) and the public schools. Services are available, by separate agreement, to schools in Carson, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, Pershing, Mineral and Churchill counties (the WNCC service area). Joint use of this facility will enhance science and technology education in the region by delivering modern, high technology computer-related education with maximum cost efficiency.

The High-Tech Center houses approximately 230 state-of-the-art personal computers, fully networked to both local and regional file servers as well as connected to the Internet. Sixty computers are located in a central open area; approximately twenty-seven computers are located in each of five separate, specialized labs. Each lab is devoted to compatible clusters of computer software and technology. These clusters will emphasize regional needs in rapidly developing areas of technology which existing programs do not adequately address. Some of the programs housed in the Center, such as the Computer Maintenance program, will prepare students for immediate job opportunities, while other programs will provide the first step toward more advanced studies. All programs will focus on the practical applications of computer technology, both in the classroom and in the workplace.

Classes currently being taught at the High-Tech Center include:

  • Autocad
  • Graphic Arts
  • 3D Amination
  • Web Design
  • Flash
  • Computer Literacy
The High-Tech Center is open as early as 7:00 a.m. for high school use and shifts to community college use from 2:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Robin Bleuss is the secretary and contact person for the Technology Center.
