Seniors: If you have been offered or have received a scholarship please let the Guidance Office know. We need this information for Scholarship Night and the Graduation Awards Programs.
1. ALBERT AND FRANCES SEELIGER SCHOLARSHIP – Two (2) $800.00 scholarships are being offered for any student who attended Seeliger Elementary School . Applicants must have attended a minimum of 5 years. Scholarship money can be used at any University or College. Grades and test scores are only part of the consideration process. Applications are due to Seeliger by 3/31/04 .
2. MERRY & JASON BAYER BROAD HORIZONS SCHOLARSHIP – This scholarship is in memory of Merry Bayer, a former CHS teacher, and her son Jason who were much appreciated and greatly missed. Pick up applications in the Guidance Office. Due to Guidance 4/19/04 .
3. NATIONAL FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS (NFIB) – The NFIB is looking for students who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative. You must be nominated by a dues paying member of NFIB. Apply on-line at www.nfib.com/education. Must be postmarked to the sponsor by 3/31/04 .
4. EDITH MILO/CC RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION -- A $500 scholarship is being offered to a CHS senior who is planning on majoring in Education at a Nevada institution. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and are due to Guidance by 3/31/04 .
5. JOHN AND GRACE NAUMAN FOUNDATION -- An undetermined number of scholarships will be available to Carson High School seniors who plan on attending UNR, WNCC, or the University of Northern Colorado . The amount of the awards will be announced at a later date. Preference will be given to students planning on majoring in education or engineering. Completed applications are due to the Guidance Office by 4/1/04 .
6. SIERRA NEVADA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS, INC. -- Offering three (6) $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors of this area. Financial need will be considered together with a sincere desire and ambition to attain a higher degree of education at a university, college, trade or technical school. Pick up applications in Guidance and return them to the sponsor by 3/26/04 .
7. ORMSBY COUNTY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION (OCEA) -- To apply for this scholarship your parent, step parent, or guardian must be an OCEA member. This $1,000 scholarship may be used at any college, university, etc. Pick up and return applications in Guidance by 3/19/04 .
8. RICHARD H. THORESON SCHOLARSHIP -- A $400 scholarship is being offered by the Thoreson Family in the name of their son Richard, a former CHS graduate who unfortunately lost his life in an accident. This scholarship will be offered to a senior who has clear and specific goals to further their education at any college, university or vocational school and can demonstrate serious financial need. Pick up an application in the Guidance Office and return it to Guidance by 4/2/04 .
9. MARK S. MILLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP -- A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Carson High School to be used in the freshman college year and will be based on academic achievement, financial need, and the response to an essay question. Scholarship will be sent to the registration office of the college of the recipient's choice. One-half of the $500 award will be sent for each semester. Completed application form, essay and transcript must be submitted to the Guidance Office by 4/2/04 .
1. NAHAS SCHOLARSHIP -- This scholarship is available to one boy and one girl who will be enrolling at UNR. The scholarship amount is $6,000 ($1,500 per year) and is based on GPA (minimum of 3.5), community service, and success in competitive sports for at least 2 years. Applications are available in Guidance and are due to the sponsor by 3/26/04 .
2. GREATER NEVADA CREDIT UNION – The GNCU is providing a total of eight (10) $1,000 scholarships to applicants who are members of GNCU or the son or daughter of a GNCU member. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and are due to the sponsor by 5:30 pm 3/26/04 .
3. AYN RAND INSTITUTE ESSAY CONTESTS – Available to 9th-12th graders. Write an essay, win money for College! More information is available at www.aynrand.org/contests. Deadline for 9 & 10 grade due to sponsor 3/18/04 . Deadline for 11 and 12 grade due to sponsor 4/15/04 .
4. LARRY G. HOLLOWAY MEMORIAL MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP – This is a $1,000 scholarship that was established in memory of Mr. Holloway, a band director in the Carson City School District . Students who apply must be an instrumentalist at CHS and exhibit a strong commitment and applied talent in music. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and are due back to Guidance 3/19/04 .
5. PROJECT 21 SCHOLARSHIP CAMPAIGN -- Project 21 is an underage gambling education program designed to communicate the consequences associated with underage gambling through posters, articles, and videos done by high school, vocational and college students. Articles, posters or videos should be submitted to Harrah’s to be eligible to win one of the following awards: Fifteen $1,000 scholarships and thirty $500 savings bonds will be awarded to selected articles, videos, and posters. Articles must appear in the school newspaper and posters must be displayed within the school; videos must be no longer than 30 seconds and must be played before at least 50 students. Stop in Guidance for applications. Entries must be submitted to sponsor by 3/31/04 .
6. NEVADA AGRICULTURAL FOUNDATION -- Students with strong 4-H or FFA backgrounds as well as all other seniors can apply for several educational assistance awards. Come to Guidance for more information and an application or you can apply online at www.nvagfoundation.org. Due to the sponsor by 3/15/04 .
7. JOHN ASCUAGA'S NUGGET SCHOLARSHIP -- A $1,000 scholarship is being offered to a CHS senior who has at least a 3.25 GPA through the 7th semester, has good citizenship and moral character, has participated in high school activities and has a proposed plan for financing their future college education. Selected students are also required to maintain a 2.75 GPA during their freshman year of college. A separate $1,000 minority student award is also being offered. Pick up and return applications to Guidance by 3/15/04 .
8. ITALIAN CATHOLIC FEDERATION SCHOLARSHIP -- A $400 scholarship is being offered to graduating seniors who meet the requirements of being of Italian descent, are of the Catholic faith and have a minimum GPA of 3.2. If either Catholic parent or grandparent is a member of the Federation, applicant must be Catholic but need not be of Italian ancestry to qualify. Pick up applications in Guidance and return to the sponsor by 3/15/04 .
9. SIERRA SCHOOLS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP -- The SSFCU is providing a $1,000 Directors Scholarship. One will go to a young man and one to a young lady who have their own savings account through this financial institution. If you do not have an account you can open one and then you will be eligible for this scholarship. Pick up applications and return them to the sponsor by 3/19/04 .
10. USA FUNDS ACCESS TO EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS – These scholarships are being offered to students demonstrating financial need. Special consideration will be given to physically disabled and ethnic minority groups (half the scholarships). Awards are for $1,500 per year for four years. Apply online at www.usafunds.org and select “Scholarship Information” from the “Express Links” menu. Due to the sponsor 3/15/04 .
11. COLLEGE BOARD SCHOLARSHIP – The College Board is having a contest and awarding a $1,000 scholarship in partnership with eCampusTours.com. Please visit site for details and to enter.
12. NORTHERN NEVADA LABORERS – AGC APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM – Anyone interested in a 2 year apprenticeship program in construction craft (construction, remodeling, demolition, etc.) please stop by the Guidance Office for additional information.
13. ATTENTION ATHLETES – Are you a senior planning on playing a sport at a Division I or II college next year? If so, you must go to the Clearinghouse Website at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net and follow the instructions given. A copy must be printed out and brought into the Guidance Office so a transcript can be sent.
14. SOROPTIMIST GIRL OF THE MONTH AWARD -- All senior girls are qualified to apply for this special recognition provided by the Soroptimist International of Carson City. This is not a scholarship award, but is an excellent recognition to include on your resume. One girl from CHS will be selected each month throughout the school year. Pick up and return applications in the Guidance Office as soon as possible.

Do volunteer and community service work.
Fill out the admissions application accurately and precisely.
Finish high school strong.
Follow up on applications.
Prepare for a college interview.
Pick up your registration packets in the Guidance Office for the fall ACT and/or SAT College entrance tests. Booklets to help you prepare for a better score on the tests are also available in the Guidance Office. The first tests to be given at CHS are:
