Attendance is mandatory for all band performances and extra rehearsals. Some overnight trips will be required and students are responsible for the expense of the trip. Fund raising opportunities will be available every semester. Limited rehearsals will be held after the school day.

This course is geared towards teaching the new singer how to sing correctly. There will be opportunity for vocal solo and ensemble work. A portion of the time will be devoted to fundamentals of music. There is no need to audition for this class. This course will fulfill the humanities/occupational graduation requirement. This course is geared towards teaching the singer who had Choir I, or an incoming Freshman who had choir in the junior high/middle school level. This course will fulfill the humanities/occupational graduation requirement. A $25 lab fee is mandatory.

This course is geared toward performance of choral literature from all periods. There will be local performances and tours throughout the school year. This class is for the advanced singer who has had choral training. The student must audition in front of the choir teacher before admission. This course will fulfill the humanities/occupational graduation requirement. A $35 lab fee is mandatory.
MUSICAL THEATERSemester/Full Year

This course is for drama or music students who want to participate in musicals, show choirs, dance and singing. This course is geared towards advanced students in drama or music. (This course will fulfill P.E. requirement.) Students will be divided up into three sections: Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced, based on experience. A $30 lab fee is mandatory.
ADVANCED JAZZ ENSEMBLE (0 PERIOD)Semester/Full Year

Offered 1st and 2nd semester. The jazz Ensemble is an audition only group that functions as a supplement to the other bands. Its main goal is to provide Symphonic, Wind Ensemble, and Marching Band members with an opportunity to learn about Jazz through preparation and performance. It is offered to students in grades 9-12 who play saxophone, trombone, trumpet, piano, bass, guitar or percussion. The jazz ensemble meets at zero hour daily during the school year and students should be prepared to get to rehearsal on time. The jazz ensemble has many performances throughout the year. Jazz ensemble performances are listed on the band schedule. Prerequisites: Jazz Ensemble members must also be performing in Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble. Live audition is required. Auditions are held in March of the previous year. This course will fulfill the humanities/occupational graduation requirement. Lab Fee: $25 per semester.

Offered 1st and 2nd semester. The concert band is our entry-level band. Its main Goal is to prepare the student for participation in both the Symphonic and Marching Bands and the Wind Ensemble. It is open to incoming Freshmen and Upperclassmen that do not meet the requirements for the Symphonic Band. The Concert Band performances are listed on the band schedule. Prerequisite: At least one year of Middle School Band experience and/or private audition. All Concert Band members must be in band both semesters. This course will fulfill the humanities/occupational graduation requirement. Lab fee: $25 per year.
MARCHING BAND AND COLOR GUARDSemester/Full Year

Marching Band Performs through football playoffs and into the month of November for field competitions, then throughout the basketball season. It exists to allow the students to learn about teamwork through participation at competitions, provide entertainment at the football and basketball games, and other community events. Students may earn up to two P.E. credits for participation. Rehearsals being in August with a mandatory twice a day, two-week Band Camp and four mandatory practices per week until the end of the marching band season (second week of November). Practice times are Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 2:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. For basketball season, the Marching Band will rehearse one hour (or as needed) before each game. Attendance at basketball games is optional for members of the winter guard. Prerequisite: Three years of Middle School band experience and/ or private audition. Participation in Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble at least one semester. Lab fee: $25 per semester.
SYMPHONIC BANDSemester/Full Year

This ensemble is designed for students with two or more years of playing experience and with intermediate to medium advanced musical ability. Playing techniques and band literature for the class will be designed to enhance musical ability and maturity of each student. This ensemble should prepare students for future participation in the wind ensemble. The CHS symphonic band will perform regularly in concerts, festivals, contests, and selected civic events. Prerequisite: Director approval and by audition only. This course will fulfill the humanities graduation requirement. Lab fee: $25 per year.

This ensemble is designed for students with three or more years of playing experience and with advanced musical ability. Advanced band literature and techniques are stressed. The wind ensemble will perform regularly in concerts, festivals, contests, and civic events. The CHS wind ensemble is the premier performance ensemble for concert band and is for serious instrumental students. This course will fulfill the humanities graduation requirement. Prerequisite: Director approval and by audition only. Lab fee: $25 per year.
