This course is designed to expose freshman to the general concepts of physical, earth, and environmental sciences. Studies will include the basic principles of physics, chemistry, astronomy, the earth forming and destructive processes, and environmental factors. Instruction is through lecture, lab, and demonstration methods.
MEDICAL ANATOMYSemester

This course includes a study of anatomy, and training for working in the medical field. The course will go over medical, body systems, vital signs, and patient care. Dissections will be a part of the curriculum. This course is excellent for those students interested in working in the medical field. There will also be a medical certification in this program. Prerequisite: Biology. Lab Fee: $15.
ASTRONOMYSemester

This course is designed for the student with an interest in astronomy. Students will study the main topics in astronomy such as the solar system, stars, constellations, and galaxies. There will be various types of labs and projects using analysis, observations, computer technology, and calculators as well as supplementary audiovisual materials. A good understanding of math concepts is strongly recommended. Lab Fee: $5 per semester.

General biology is a laboratory-oriented course consisting of the study of the basis of life and the structure and function of cells as they relate to plants, animals and micro-organisms. Studies will include genetics and the study of the groups of animals beginning with the simplest and progressing to the most complex.

Botany/Zoology is a laboratory-oriented course designed to acquaint the student with the biological studies of anatomy, physiology, taxonomy, ecology, genetics, and inter-relationship of plant and animal life. One major project is required each semester. Prerequisite: Biology.

Chemistry is a laboratory-oriented course emphasizing the use of mathematics and chemical equations. This course investigates the areas of chemical families, chemical reactions, gas laws, equilibrium, solubility, organic chemistry and qualitative analysis. Prerequisites: Algebra I and Geometry. GEOLOGYSemester

This course is designed for the student who is interested in exploring and learning about Geology (the study of the earth). The range of topics in this course covers everything from rock and mineral identification, and formation to plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, glaciers, surface, and ground water, structural geology, mass wasting, and map skills. The course will involve lab work, lecture, supplementary readings, and a research project.

This course is designed to introduce the student to the structure and function of the various systems of the body. The student will learn in depth the various parts of each system, what makes them function, and how these systems relate to each other. Study of this course will be through lecture and lab methods. Prerequisite: A grade of B or better in Biology.

This course concentrates on the investigation of the world of the sea. Included in the course are studies of marine biology, geology, chemistry, physics of the ocean, marine ecology, and the future of the sea.

This course is designed for the serious student who is interested in medicine or its related fields. Subject matter will cover the biochemistry and physiological functions and structures of the various organs and systems of the human body. This course is designed as an independent study class. Prerequisites: Human Anatomy, Chemistry, and Biology. Lab Fee: $15 per year.

This course covers a series of laboratory explorations into the action that takes place in our everyday lives. Some of the main concepts to be covered are simple machines, velocity, motion, optics, electricity, magnetism, waves, gravity, and energy. Students are required to complete two third quarter projects which involve many of the concepts covered in class. Prerequisites: Algebra I, Geometry. Lab Fee: $10 per year.
