Mr. Houlihan was educated in Southern California at a private school, La Verne University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He taught for twenty years in the area of special education and coached football and tennis at the secondary level both in southern and northern California. At Nevada Union High School in northern California, Mr. Houlihan was the Athletic Director his last eleven years of his tenure there. He has received numerous awards and commendations for his contribution to the school and sports with which he was involved. Some of those commendations include: Man of the year award from KNCO Radio, High School Tennis Coach of the Year from the United States Professional Tennis Association, issuance of a life time pass to all athletic events in the Sac-San Joaquin section in Northern California for his contribution to athletics, and special recognition for sportsmanship from the National Association of Athletic Directors.
Mr. Houlihan relocated to Carson City and is finishing his seventeen year at Carson High School and is currently a Vice Principal at CHS. Mr. Houlihan is married to Cynthia Houlihan, who is employed at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in the Human Resource Department.
